Addressing Inequity

Addressing Inequity

In pursuit of our mission, Graffito continuously strives to use our position in the industry to address historical inequities around access to real estate and capital. We pride ourselves in serving as a translator between large institutional real estate investors and small, local, owner-operated businesses.

Working With Graffito

Our diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts to date have equipped us to honestly and openly discuss challenging issues related to race, gender, class, sexual orientation, religion, and other protected classes. As a result, we have created a Framework for Communication which recognizes that we arrive at our work with clients at different levels of awareness, education, and life experiences. It is a two-way street and an acknowledgement of our mutual imperfection when talking about these important issues that impact all of us in different ways. We ask all our clients to review our Framework at project kickoffs, pictured to the right.

Small Business Tool Kit

In 2023, we created a guide using our team’s 15+ years of experience in leasing, advising, economic development, and developing retail real estate in Greater Boston and beyond. We’ve tailored this tool kit through an equity lens, trying our best to put ourselves in the shoes of a first-time business owner who may not have access to expert resources due to systemic racism and discrimination, landlord biases, and high-transactional barriers of entry to retail real estate. We don’t always encounter those barriers in our work, but we know they do exist for many small business owners. Click the link below to launch the online version of our tool kit.
