Boston Establishes Artist Relief Fund in Response to Coronavirus

The economic impacts of COVID-19 are not limited to traditional businesses. The city’s arts and cultural communities will also be hard hit – lost revenue from cancelled gallery shows or performances; a drop in discretionary art buying; art-making contracts and collaborations postponed. Not to mention that many working artists also supplement their incomes with part-time hourly jobs in the very retail and restaurant businesses we’ve discussed are cutting hours. To support the arts community, The City of Boston’s Office of Arts in Culture has modified its existing Opportunity Fund grants to “best address the current needs of artists whose creative practices and incomes are being adversely impacted by COVID-19.
